"Home" for Christmas

The old Bing Crosby song always comes to mind this time of year. "I'll be home for Christmas. You can count on it.........If only in my dreams." I've been listening to a series of old tapes from 1961, 1962, 1969, 1971, and 1975 that have the voices of my family in various cities that we met to celebrate the holidays with each other. Each one of those cities and homes have very special meaning to me, but the locations are not available anymore. So what does I'll be home for Christmas mean. It's pretty simple. It means you are with the people you love most, and regardless of where you are it's home. Right now i'm in Canon City, Colorado and not in the house that saw me grow up. It's occupied by another family in Sunray, Texas. How is this strange place in Colorado home? My parents live in it. That makes it home. My wife is here with me. That makes it home. Many of you are in touch with me via the net. That makes it home. "They" say home is where the heart is, but I say home is where you are and what you make of it.

  1. So glad you started to blog - not sure how you do fb, twitter and blog - so wow!!!

As someone who is not technically home for the holidays, your thoughts really resonate with me and I have to agree!

  2. This really speaks mountains. Especially with those in the military. We make our home where ever we are for as long as we will be there. Then, we move and start all over again. The hoildays are hard for some that have never been away from "home". What a nice reminder that home is where we are!!!! Have a Merry Christmas. Can't wait to read more of what' on your mind.
